Get both phones working together

Start with the setup checklist below. Most connection problems are fixed by reopening camera mode on the spare phone and confirming both phones have internet access.

Two-phone setup

  1. Install An Eye On It on the spare camera phone and the phone you want to watch from.
  2. Sign in, then choose Use this phone as a camera on the spare phone.
  3. Give the camera a recognisable name and allow camera access when asked.
  4. Choose how long the new viewer should have access: this session, one hour, one day or ongoing.
  5. On the viewer phone, choose Pair a camera phone and scan the QR code or enter the six-digit code. Check the camera name, type and access period shown before confirming.
  6. Leave the camera screen visibly open, keep the phone awake and connect it to power for longer check-ins.

Important: iPhone camera access stops if the camera app is sent to the background. An Eye On It does not use a hidden camera mode.

Troubleshooting

The camera says offline

Open An Eye On It on the camera phone and return to its active camera screen. Confirm the phone is awake, connected to Wi‑Fi or mobile data and not in Low Power or extreme battery-saving mode. The viewer will refresh the status automatically.

The pairing code expired or does not work

Codes are single-use and last five minutes. On the camera phone choose Pair a new viewer to create a fresh code, then use only the newest code shown.

A viewer says their access disappeared

Session-only access ends when that first live view ends. One-hour and one-day access expire automatically from the time the code is redeemed. Create a new code if you want to grant access again; only the camera owner chooses the new duration.

Live view is stuck on connecting

Keep camera mode open, then tap Try again on the viewer. Test with both phones on ordinary Wi‑Fi first. Workplace, hotel and restricted networks can block direct video connections; switching one phone to mobile data can help identify a network restriction.

Camera or microphone permission was denied

Open the phone’s Settings app, find An Eye On It and enable Camera. Microphone access is optional and is used only for an on-device sound-level indicator when you turn that option on. Raw audio is not recorded, transmitted or uploaded.

How does recent activity work?

The camera owner can optionally turn on activity-time sharing. When it is off, no activity events are sent. When it is on, authorised viewers can see only the event type and time for motion, a sound-level threshold or low light. The service never attaches an image, video, raw audio, location or sensor reading, and deletes this metadata after seven days by default.

Where are snapshots saved?

iPhone snapshots are saved to Photos. Android snapshots are saved in Pictures/An Eye On It. A snapshot is created only when you tap Snapshot on the viewer phone; it is not uploaded to An Eye On It cloud storage.

Can I receive remote alerts?

No. Remote push alerts are not available in the current release and push delivery remains disabled. Any motion, sound or low-light indicators offered by the app do not silently enable cloud notifications.

How do I secure or sign out other app devices?

In Settings, use the app lock option to require Face ID, Touch ID, fingerprint or your phone’s security where supported. That biometric choice stays on the phone. Open signed-in devices to review session names and last-used times, then sign out an unrecognised device or all other devices. You can also revoke a mobile app session from your signed-in web account.

The camera phone is getting warm

Continuous video uses the camera, processor and network. Keep the phone ventilated, out of direct sunlight and off soft bedding. Lower the selected video quality or screen brightness, and stop camera mode if the phone shows a temperature warning.

Access and privacy

  • Review paired viewers from the camera’s options. You can see when each person paired, their last access time, access expiry and whether a live view is connected.
  • Use Disconnect viewers now to end current live connections without removing ongoing or time-limited access, or revoke one viewer or all shared access.
  • Pairing codes are short-lived and should only be shared with someone you trust.
  • Delete your account from Settings or the account deletion page.
  • Read the full privacy policy and terms of use.
